KNISTERN #1

Intertronik

Improvisationen #2 und #3

7" Vinyl

Intertronik was the experimental-electronic duo Guy Saldanha (electric bass) and Klemens Kaatz (live-electronics and accordion).

In "Improvisation #2" quiet feedback drives to a climax of rotating distortions. "Improvisation #3" builds hesitating rhythms into an abstract latin groove.

Verzerrungen

7" Vinyl

Verzerrungen ("Distortions") is a composition for three electric basses. It is made up of eight parts in which rock-riffs are distorted rhythmically.

The piece is conceived such that while the musicians stand in the middle of the room, the loudspeakers are positioned in the corners. The sound can thus be heard from different directions at the same time.

Klemens Kaatz

Transformationen

7" Vinyl

Transformationen is a duo for double-bass and live-electronics. The five-part composition with improvisational elements uses rock sounds as well as 12-tone compositional techniques.

The electronics include pitch-shifter, wah-wah-pedal, loop-sampler, digital-delay, valve preamp/Leslie-simulator and mixer.

KNISTERN #4

Christian Ribas

A3XX

7" Vinyl

The tunes played by the A3XX-bigband are based on samples that Christian Ribas recorded from musicians of the bigband. The compositions and arrangements relate to loops of these samples.

Incidental noises created while playing instruments are put in the foreground and layered into grooves. A musician triggers and processes the loops live.

KNISTERN #5

tbc & Guy Saldanha

Anti-Gravitation

7" Vinyl

Bassist Guy Saldanha creates a wall of fast rock phrases, deep drones and noise-loops that tbc aka Thomas Beck breaks and amplifies with minimalistic clicking and loud screeching from his feedback-mixer.

Uri Geller

Soul; and the Loss of It

7" Vinyl

The Hamburg-based quartet "Uri Geller" plays bent rhythm-compositions, made up of syncopated snare-drum-studies and a rough funk/soul-sound. The singer/clarinettist used to play in the French noise-group "Hashover", the drummer in the monstruous "Stau". The rest of the band - that is organ and bass - are the electronic-duo "moonbuggy".

Guy & Gregory

A

CD-R

Gregory Büttner plays sine waves and other sounds through small loudspeakers which he prepares with objects like ping pong balls or tooth picks. Additional sounds are a milk frother and a pocket vibrator. Guy Saldanha plays ukelele combining chromatic melodies and chords, two hand tapping and percussion. The result are short, sparse pieces.

KNISTERN CD 3

Saldanha Delle

It Is Going To Bump A Dent

CD-R

"Java Delle" creates noise with contact mics, distortion pedals and a feedback mixer. Guy Saldanha plays bass and can be heard on two noise KNISTERN 7" records with "tbc" and with "Intertronik". The duo "Saldanha Delle" plays intense, plunging improvisations in which feedbacks and bass are thrusted into each other.

KNISTERN CD 4

Uri Geller

Live in der Roten Flora

CD-R

The Hamburg-based band "Uri Geller" released a 7" on KNISTERN and a split single with "Tumorchester" on the "Fidel Bastro" label. Almost all compositions by the band are arrangements of "found" rhythm exercises. As always the band – which is inspired by The Contrortions, Mars and Conlon Nancarrow – plays with drive and to the point, screaming outbursts are caught and placed inside asymmetric grooves.

KNISTERN CD 5

Hermann Süß & TonArt String Quartet

4+1 Graphic Compositions by Harry Nitz

CD-R

Horn player Hermann Süß and the TonArt String Quartet (Nicola Kruse violin, Mike Rutledge viola, Krischa Weber cello, Peter Niklas Wilson bass) play graphic compositions by composer and free jazz musician Harry Nitz. The pieces structure group improvisations by defining instrumentation, sound material, total length and rests to be used. Hermann Süß' trumpet and Flügelhorn playing extends jazz with elements from contemporary classical music into a singular style.
